physio, sports therapy, physiotherapistPhysiotherapy is a Health Care Profession primarily concerned with the remediation of musculoskeletal (MSK) pain, impairments and disabilities and the promotion of mobility, functional ability, quality of life, movement potential and return to sport, through examination (assessment), evaluation, diagnosis and physical intervention.

At The Physio Group, this is carried out by Chartered Physiotherapists (MCSP – Members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy) who must also be registered with the Health And Care Professions Council (HCPC).

As sports physiotherapists, we can be involved in the care and well-being of athletes including recreational, semi-professional and professional participants. We also apply the same principles for treating the general public who take no part in sport as we feel this is the most comprehensive injury management strategy.

This area of practice encompasses complete injury management under 5 main categories:

  1. Acute care – Assessment and Diagnosis of an initial injury.
  2. Treatment – Application of specialist advice and treatment techniques to encourage healing.
  3. Rehabilitation – Progressive management for full return to sport, work or ADL (activities of daily living) based on agreed goals at initial consultation.
  4. Prevention – Identification and address of deficiencies known to directly result in, or act as a precursor to injury. This may include a Functional Athletic Screen to be carried out. By reducing the risk factors we may reduce injury reoccurrence.
  5. Education – Sharing of specialist knowledge to clients, athletes, teams or clubs to assist in prevention and management of injury.
