Whiplash Associated Disorders
Whiplash Associated Disorder (WAD) commonly occurs following a road traffic accident or sudden acceleration-deceleration injury affecting the neck. Symptoms may appear immediately or develop over several days and can significantly impact daily function.
Patients may experience neck pain, stiffness, headaches, reduced movement, shoulder discomfort, or dizziness. Some individuals also develop muscle tension or sensitivity that persists if not managed appropriately.
At The Physio Group, early assessment is key. Our physiotherapists carry out a thorough evaluation to identify movement restriction, muscle dysfunction, and any associated nerve irritation.
Treatment focuses on restoring normal movement and reducing protective muscle guarding through hands-on physiotherapy, gentle mobility work, and progressive exercise rehabilitation. Education and reassurance form an important part of recovery, helping patients regain confidence in movement.
Using our Reduce, Restore, Return approach, we guide patients safely through recovery, aiming to prevent persistent symptoms and support a full return to normal activity.
